Jim Ferguson's
knives are featured in some of the most exclusive
knife collections in the world. His knives have
graced the covers of numerous premiere knife
magazines for the past 20 years, including Le
Passion du Couteau and Knives
Illustrated - and has been featured in Blade,
Blades International, as well as
in numerous books. He also created knives for the
blockbuster film as Pirates of the
Caribbean.
Jim Ferguson has been making
custom knives since 1987. He has been forging
damascus steel since 1989. Having 44 years
experience in the sheet metal trade, (22 as the
owner and operator of a small corporation) he has
been able to use this experience to build most of
the equipment that he uses to produce high
quality damascus steel.
Over the years, Jim has learned
techniques as a metalergist that have greatly
assisted him in the areas of efficiency and
quality. Because of this, Twisted Nickel Damascus
Steel is among the best in the world, and is at
economical price for the custom knife maker. Jim
also buys his materials in bulk. The C-1095
carbon steel comes in one ton coils. The use of a
power sheer with two back gauges, one for width
and the other for length, greatly reduces the
time needed to prepare the materials for
stacking. Pre-fluxing also speeds up the forging
process. The use of a ball mill to tumble the
bars cleans off scale for surface griding.
